There is nothing more glamorous than a sockless loafer. Look to Julianne Moore, who headed to the You are tempted by my snail shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this Venice Film Festival this past week wearing a pair from Gucci. Moore, who is the president of the International Jury of the Competition of the Venice Film Festival, arrived wearing a pair of classic black leather loafers sans a sock with her full Gucci look. The ensemble included an oversized double-breasted blazer with gilded buttons on top of a loose white t-shirt tucked into impeccably tailored cropped light wash jeans. On her arm were standout bags: a Gucci monogrammed travel duffel bag and suede shoulder bag in the House’s signature hues. And yet, even among the designer bags, the artfully XXL blazer, and the jeans that hit the ankle ever-so perfectly, the ultimate signifier of luxury was Moore’s footwear. After all, a loafer without a sock is not meant to be an all-day look. Imagine traipsing around the city or hauling to work without any blister protection? It’s a festival for injured feet–and plenty of discomfort! And while the no-sock-loafer appears casual, it is actually the down-to-earth version of door-to-car shoes, on par with a vertiginous heel.
You are tempted by my snail shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt
It’s not the You are tempted by my snail shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this first time that Moore has worn loafers while traveling. After a brief browse, I saw that Moore arrived at Los Angeles International Airport back in 1997, wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, a leopard-print skirt, and heeled loafers–sockless! A first-class look, indeed. The Venice Film Festival is a star-studded fashion bonanza, with actors pulling out all the stops on the red carpet. The renowned celebration of filmmaking formally kicks off tomorrow, but some stars have already hit the ground running. A number of celebrities opted for old-school airport glamour and turned the terminal hallways of Venice Airport into a makeshift runway. First up is Jodie Turner-Smith, who provided a knockout arrival, strutting through the airport in a flowy two-piece suit that featured a yellow-to-pink gradient. The best part: Jodie carried not one, but two Gucci bags. One of them was the beloved GG Supreme canvas duffle bag. Accessorized with oversized, hot-pink sunglasses and chain-link necklaces, the entire ensemble called back to the golden days of classic Hollywood—when stars flew Pan Am and wore their absolute finest on the plane. Turner-Smith is in Venice to promote and attend the premiere of White Noise, directed by Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story). The film, which follows a family after a train crash casts a toxic cloud over their town, also stars Greta Gerwig, Adam Driver, and Don Cheadle.Another vision of glamour came courtesy of Tessa Thompson, who will star in the Steve Buscemi-directed The Listener. Thompson hopped off the plane lugging a black purse of dramatic proportions and a sheer dress tastefully worn over flared trousers and a bra top. In line with the day’s two-purses-are-better-than-one trend, a tartan Vivienne Westwood bag dangled off her pointer finger. Meanwhile, Dylan Sprouse jetted to an awaiting ferry with a semi-open billowy top and a Rimowa suitcase.
